My team created an innovative and novel train coupler design to replace of the currently prevalent Janney coupler design which is over 100 years old. The pin system we designed provides intentional minor failure points and allows for simple and low-cost matinance and replacement. This advantage yields long-run cost benefit for the consumers. Overall this project resuted in a ptotype design that is a proof of concept that will need to be assessed on an industry standard and likley continually optimized and improved.
